Does it freak you out that all these fashion bloggers and well dressed people are getting younger and younger. There are so many people out there that just turned 19 or even younger say under 18 that are dressing way better than me back in the days. I guess I’m just sort of jealous that there’s so much more options nowadays and trends that are driving towards chic and vintage.

But other than the clothes, either I just have an extreme case of the Asians-looking-like-little-girls-forever syndrome or everyone else just looks so much older than me when they’re actually younger by years! Oh well, whether they’re younger or older, these fashionable girls still inspire people, and I admire that. *Applause*

I need to update my Chictopia!!!!! But I don’t have a photographer at 7am in the morning :(

Blackfaced

18Oct09

Hellooo

This might be old news to many of you, but my Textiles professor mass emailed this article to my class:

http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/beauty/blackface-french-vogue-spread-high-fashion-or-racist-525298/

Let me summarize: French Vogue did a spread with Dutch model Lara Stone and blackfaced her. What this means is that the model is painted with dark/brown makeup that makes her appear African. She’s also dressed up in a native/traditional African style.

So the question: is it fashion or is it racist?

I absolutely agree with what was said in the video that was embedded into that article. There are plenty of black models out there! People are already aware that there aren’t as many black models in Vogue than white models. And to blackface a white model is a huge diss in my opinion. I mean I guess I could see how it could be creative or for fashion purposes, but that’s like saying a counterfeit Louis Vuitton handbag looks and feels better than the real Louis Vuitton handbag.

Okayyyy, hooray for a second a post. Hopefully I’ll be motivated to write more!

Introductions

04Oct09

Hey everyone I’m Sandy!

Had this account for awhile. Posted some earlier posts on random and retarded topics that was irrelevant to anything and anyone, hahaha. But I’m here to try this blogging thang again. Why? Well… let’s do this in bullet points so I don’t have to type out complete/grammatically correct sentences :)

Purpose:
- to learn how to use blogs efficiently
- learn those tech-jargon (HTML… that’s as far as my vocab goes)
- hopefully writing more = less brain farts when it comes to communicating through writing
- my insights on fashion trends/bad trends
- updates on my life here & there
- random ramblings… why not?

But yeah… don’t think I really have a direction in where my blog is heading yet. Trial and error right?

Anyway, don’t know if I’m going to keep the title “Frugal Fashionista”, but we’ll see how this goes. Why did I choose that title? Well, like most college students, money IS an issue. HUGE SAD FACE :( It’s just not practical for me to wear designer stuff to school everyday. Especially not where I attend school… UC Davis. I know I shouldn’t care, but who doesn’t! Heeled shoes just aren’t practical for school, even if it makes my outfit look infinitely better!

I love shopping! Bargains and sales are to die for, hahaha!

Okay folks, check me out on Chictopia! http://www.chictopia.com/sandym
I have a lookbook.nu account too, but I’m just going to focus on Chictopia first :)
